Packing Efficiently For A Weekend Trip

Weekend trips in the summer are essential.  East coast…west coast, doesn’t matter – there’s plenty of options of where to go and what to see.  BUT, that’s not what we are focussing on today.  Today we are talking about how to make those weekend trips a breeze and as easy peasy as possible.  We love them and want more of them so to make it simple makes it easier to do more of them!  Let’s see how two A-type individuals have minimized their bags and maximized their time away!

First, two dresses.  That’s it.  That’s all you need.  Almost.  A cute white dress and a cute blush dress are really all you need and you’re good to go.  You can wear either of them during the day with your Adidas Stan Smith sneakers or you can dress them up with casual heels in the evening.  That’s all!  We also love our Chanel wallet purse for weekend trips so that all our essentials fit in perfect and you can wear it cross body during the day or clutch style at night.

Next, the little things.  It always feels like there’s so many little things needed for a long trip and just as many for a weekend trip.  So, all we did was take those essential items and minimize them.  We use a sheer pink gloss all day and all night when we are away.  We also use small sample size perfumes and never go anywhere without our Touche Eclait.  We put all our little essentials into our cosmetic bag so that they are easy to find and not buried at the bottom of our bag.

Finally, the simplest things…  We love lace bras and barrettes for short weekend trips so that they are easy to fold and sexy if the mood suits.  We also depend heavily upon our Louis Vuitton square scarf.  It acts as a shall so that you don’t need to pack a bulky sweater or cardigan and it acts as another layer if you want a splash of colour with your two dresses.

Packing list?  1 weekend, 2 dresses, 1 runner, 1 heel, 1 purse, 2 underwear, 1 bra, 1 scarf, some cosmetics and a PASSPORT and you’re off for the weekend with the most essential packing program!

XO,

Samantha and Michelle

Long Weekend San Francisco Travel Guide

We know it’s Mother’s Day and all, but seriously, you had that dialed (thanks to us) last week with tons of rose!  This week we are LONG WEEKEND prepp’ing (all weekends should be long weekends) and what better way to spend a long weekend than jetting off to San Francisco?!  Our dear friend, Amanda, is heading there so as a thank you for all the past, present and future photos we’ve made you take, here’s a run down of how to spend your weekend in San Fran!!  Here are the must see’s (tourist) and must do’s (more local) of the Bay Area’s babe…

Where to stay?  Union Square, baby!  The Fairmont Hotel is incredibly iconic, great location and perfect service.  Not to mention there is a legit Tiki bar in the basement that is as legendary as the hotel itself.  Seriously.  Our other fave is the Clift Hotel there, with Stark interiors and a great lobby lounge that is a hot spot at night!  You can’t go wrong in that area though, you really don’t spend much time in your room in San Fran…generally…  😉

What to do?  Everything!  Here’s a run down of must accomplish tourist activities…  Ride the cable cars.  Sounds touristy, it is, just do it, take the photo and get an outside seat.  It’s really a special thing to try in San Fran.  It takes you to the top of Lombard street which is a San Fran sight to see!

For something a little more active, go to the Embarcadero and rent cruiser bikes.  You can go all the way over the infamous Golden Gate Bridge to the cutest town of Sausalito.  Have a bevie there on the water!  Then you can take the ferry back with your bike instead of buzzed biking back.

What else?  You have to eat!  And to eat like a tourist, you do it at Fisherman’s Whar.  Don’t try and take down a crab and shrimp sandwich like a lady – get in there, get messy and get it tackled.  You can also grab a cold can of beer in a brown paper bag to go there too!!

Alcatraz, we would be remiss if we didn’t recommend it and crazy for not telling you to book in advance.  There are only two tours we’ve ever done that we would do again and this is definitely one of them (the other is in Chicago).  The audio guide is amazing and last time we were there a former inmate was there giving a talk.  Yah…we didn’t sleep that night either.

Looking for a little more local flavour?  We got you covered on that.  Saturday afternoon head to Dolores Park.  Pack a little picnic with some spirits and amuse-bouche and you’ll fit right in.  It’s such a great way to spend the afternoon.  For a great walk, head through Japan town to Filmore Street and walk it all the way to Union Street – it’s a great walk, local shops and cute spots.  For the best shopping you’ll have to dodge the crowds and hit up Union Square, it’s the best in the City and maybe even the whole west coast.  It’s a Mecca for all things good in life!

We love San Fran for a good wine and dine scene.  Our hands down fave for dinner is Cotogna.  Check out Comstock Saloon right around the corner for a legit pre-dinner cocktail.  Our other must eat venue is Rich Table – love the food there!  During the day, our fave is Waterbar.  Patio, oysters and sparkling?  Yes please!  Brunch on the weekend is delicious too!

And speaking of wine?  Wow…you’re only a hop, skip and a jump to Napa.  That’s right!  One hour takes you to wine country!  For more ideas on Napa check out our travel guide suggestions.

Most of all?  Just grab your coffee and take it all in.  Walk all over and dress in a million layers (you’ll really thank us later for that tip).  San Fran is such an epic city and perfect for your long weekend getaway.  The vibrant mix of everything there is really special.

Happy travels!

Samantha and Michelle

Travel Bucket List

Do we love traveling?  We adore everything about it!  New places, vibrant cultures, amazing food and endless exploration.  We are hooked, if that’s such a thing??  Well, we are.  We seize every opportunity that we have and have had to make the best of doing a trip somewhere and learning or experiencing something new.  So, what’s next on our bucket list and what are our favourite ways to explore?  Let’s see….

We read a ton about traveling and our Texture app is full of travel mags always giving us inspiration for something new.  One of our favourite books is 1000 Ultimate Experiences by Lonely Planet.  It always gets our travel cylinders firing and inspires us to check things off our travel bucket list!  Sunset and Travel + Liesure magazines are our two faves for kicking back with and getting invigorated by.  Nothing like a Bailey’s and tea on a rainy afternoon to read about sunny destinations!!

Samantha’s travel bucket list is all over the map (literally!) starting out with the French Polynesians – Bora Bora and Tahiti have been high up on her hit list since she was a little girl.  The appeal?! Crisp, clear, beautiful aqua-marine ocean with villas that extend out into it.  Seriously?! How dreamy is that?! On the other side of the map, and a totally different holiday, Tanzania.  Random?! Yes.  But, African Safari?! YES PLEASE.  What an incredible experience that no one could ever take away from you. Seeing such nature so close up (but hopefully from a safe distance) is high up on this girls travel bucket list.

Michelle’s travel bucket list is so about Morocco, Bali, Budapest and Prague right now.  Ok, so Morocco and Bali couldn’t be more different from one another or from Budapest and Prague for that matter, but that’s what makes a travel bucket list so great!  It lets your mind run wild about the idea of exploring somewhere new.  Not to mention seasonally Bali works when Prague and Budapest are freezing cold and Morocco is perfect in between!

What’s on your travel bucket list?

XO,

Samantha and Michelle

Obsession – Beach Accessories

Hey Guys!  Guess what?!  We’re STILL here, and still obsessing over all things tropical.  This week we want to dive right in and talk about our beach accessories. We’ve got four MUST-have’s at the beach for you so if you’re heading somewhere sunny and warm with a beach, listen closely.

First up, our trusty s’well water bottle.  24-hours of a cold beverage.  Need we say more…  We’re thinking not.  It’s pretty self explanatory but just in case we got this for you.  Hot beach for longer than 5 minutes + normal water bottle = boiling hot water.  Seriously, are we trying to cook pasta?!  No, we want a nice cold beverage.  Hit up the s’well.  You won’t be sad you brought it.

Next, Eugina Kim’s hats.  The idea of embroidering a message on a hat.  Absolutely brilliant.  Sending a message home, or to the person next to you AND keeping that scalp and hair sun safe.  Yes please.  Our fave is obviously Do Not Disturb.  Seriously though, it’s vacay time!

Third, we’ve got THE MOST COMFORTABLE CHAIR. Chair/lounger/love seat (try it sideways, it’s amazing)… Whatever you want to call it and however you want to use it.  The inflatable chair (inflatable by actively running to fill it with air) packs up shockingly small.  It is easily portable and it is perfect for naps.  OH, it also floats. Pretty sure that’s all you need to know about this guy.

Finally, and because we know how much we love cocktails, we need some cozy’s at the beach.  We need to keep those bevies as cold as possible.  These ones are so cute if you’re heading away with your man.  It is much more obvious whose drink is whose if you’re like us and just grab whichever is closest to you!

Let us know what we’re missing, were always up for more fun ideas to take to the beach!

XO

Staying fit on Vacation

Constantly heading out of town makes routines including staying fit and healthy difficult.  No one finds it easy and if you do, let us know how!  Sometimes things like Classpass makes it easier or having a great hotel gym right there, but still.  It’s so much effort with jet lag and a million other things on the go to make time for that workout!  Plus you have to get up AND put your cocktail down.  OMG, like we said, so much work!

We kid, sort of.  We try our best to stay healthy on vacay.  Sometimes that just means having a balanced breakfast of granola and yogurt or a salad for lunch. Ration those eggs, sausage and hash browns or burgers.  Sometimes it means sourcing out a hike or getting out of your lounge chair and swimming laps.  On vacay we’ve learned that something is better than nothing.  Although it may not be the intensity of your routine at home, there’s always something to do that makes you feel good.

One thing we’ve come to rely on over the years is wifi.  With that, our favourite girl, Lacey Kondi, has her workout videos online.  She has a dvd too!  But online is very easy with our iPads, beach towel and perfect green grass at our doorstep.  You can mix and match routines on her site to make your workout the length you desire and intensity you’re looking to be pushed too.  You can check out her videos here and see why we love them so much!  They will for sure inspire you too!

Another way to feel good on vacay is to make it fun.  Yes, we heard ourselves too.  We’re struggling with that line just as much as you are, but here’s how we do it.  We try to get out and do it early.  It’s hard to motivate after lunch (which usually involves a cocktail and a sun-filled downward spiral).  So, get up, get your light breaky in and get out.

So here’s how we make it fun…  We like finding medium-intensity hikes that end up at a waterfall and since we’re in Maui, that’s not too hard to do!  We also, like to find local juice spots that we plan to hit after a hike as a reward if a picture perfect waterfall seems like a tall order!  How else can you make it fun?  Let your exercise also be your way of exploring.  Exploring or learning new activities like paddleboard or surfing (even if it’s in a lesson) or finding a local seawall and do a run/walk.  All of these things are a great way to start your day in Paradise or on the go in a foreign city.

The most important thing about working out while you’re on vacay is to make it easy on yourself.  We know that you don’t want to pack a million pairs of runners, so find one that works for most situations (running, walking, hiking).  Make it easier on yourself by packing a second shirt for when you get back to the car after a hike so that you don’t have to sit in your gross and sweaty one.  We also always pack some gentle face wipes so that you don’t feel like a salty mess after you’re done your fitness – bitness.

Most importantly, enjoy your vacay!  If you’re fitness routine takes a break or a couple days off, so be it.  Enjoy yourself and spoil yourself – that’s why you’re there in the first place!

Happy health babes!

XO,

Samantha and Michelle
