Valentines Ideas for Her

Gentlemen, this one is for you: Valentines ideas for her. It feels like Christmas just ended but we are here, ready with some ideas for your lady. We really are much easier to buy for than you gents are. In case you were wondering.  But seriously, give us a new pair of shoes, some bath products, something for the house or some nice picture frames. See, a few easy ideas for you.  We have already posted your gift guide (we assume our ladies are SLIGHTLY more organized) but are always welcoming new must-have gift ideas.

So, shall we start with our Valentines ideas for her?!

First up, a “deal pen”. Well, fine, it doesn’t have to be dubbed a deal pen, but it certainly should be the only pen anyone should use. There are some amazingly pretty options but our votes stand with white. If you really had to defer from white, pink would be our second choice.

Our next valentines idea for her suggestion includes a scented oval for your closet. Now, we must warn you about two things: these are expensive and addictive.  Also, you need to make sure that no one will be offended if they receive this. The last thing you would want to hear is “you think my closet stinks?!”

Third, any sort of bath or shower products. There are so many amazing ones to choose from these days that we would be thrilled to get any of the options below. We have some good suggestions from exfoliant to bubble bath to your lady’s new favourite shampoo (or maybe just get her favourite shampoo?).

Finally, slippers.  We don’t need to say too much more.  Slippers are THE BEST. A good pair of slippers can also last you forever. Seriously, we had a pair from Restoration Hardware from four years ago that were still going strong, until they weren’t.  Not bad though.  Far better than anything you’d see at a value store.

If you have any more fun ideas, please share them!

Valentines Ideas for Him

Every year approximately 5 times a year, we have a minor freak out with what to buy our husbands. We are very fortunate in that we lead the type of lifestyle where it is rare to find us in need of anything. What makes this situation worse is that during those 5 times a year we give ourselves extreme anxiety trying to figure out what to get them. Luckily we now force ourselves to think about this well in advance giving us the opportunity to come up with ample ideas. So we are here, ready to give you some Valentines ideas for him.

Let’s get right into it.

“Valentines ideas for him” #1: a belt.  What man doesn’t need a belt. Also, if you’re thinking to yourself, my man has a bazillion belts. Then thank goodness you’re here because we have the ultimate belt for you.  Tom Ford’s belt for men. It’s so sleek that even if your man has one, they also need this one.

Our next idea is potentailly a motivating one, or just simply a much needed one.  Workout clothes.  Neither of our hubbys buy clothes for themselves that regularly and that includes workout clothes.  For us ladies, nothing feels better than some new workout clothes… hopefully that is true for them too!

Third, a gift that is useful for everyone: a packable backpack.  We are obsessed with these and use them everywhere we go.  Hiking, traveling or just out and about locally, we will still break out this bad boy.  We also don’t carry it making it the perfect gift for your man!

Finally, the most light-weight boots for men EVER. Any of our family or friends who own these Ugg’s Chukka’s (we have lots!), absolutely love them.  Like next level love them.  They are sturdy, durable and really freaking light.

Happy shopping!

Boozy Lemonade

Okay, well if you’re not over that whole “no drinking in January thing”, you should be now. We aren’t trying to discourage you but what we are sharing today is THAT good. It also brings a little bit of sunshine into your life that we think you just might be missing right now. We know we are. That sunshine comes from lemons and you know what they say “when life gives you lemons, make boozy lemonade”.

Fine, that may or may not be what “they” say, but it’s definitely what we are shouting at the top of our lungs right now. Depending on how many we’ve had, we may be shouting louder than usual. Okay, but in all seriousness, the best part of this boozy lemonade full of sunshine: PICK YOUR OWN BOOZE.  Tried and tested: battle bourbon vs. gin. We voted gin, but if you’re feeling adventurous, we encourage you to try that bourbon.  It was still good… the gin was definitely better though.

Are you sick of us yammering away about this darn drink and wishing that we’d just shut up and tell you how to make it already?! Well, dear friends, your wish is our command.  The following recipe will yield you 8 drinks (in smaller tumblers filled with ice).

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground ginger
  • 6 sprigs of thyme (okay so we also made this optional because well, we forgot to buy it at the store – it probably would be the perfect addition though)
  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice (like seriously, buy the lemons and get after that juice – it’s worth it)
  • 1 shot bourbon or gin per drink

Directions:

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, combine water, freshly ground ginger, thyme and sugar.
  2. Stir until sugar dissolves and simmer on low for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat. Using a sieve, pour the water mixture into a pitcher.
  4. Once cooled, add lemon juice.
  5. Add ice and a shot of your choosing to your tumbler and fill to top with your lemon mixture.

Enjoy while imagining it is the middle of the summer, even though it’s not.

New Year, New You

A new year is here and aren’t we all just busy making and breaking our resolutions?!  It gets us down when we make promises to ourselves that we just don’t keep.  So, we try not to do such drastic changes!  Like where we’re heading with this??  We like making small changes and subtle alterations to lifestyle in general to keep things going and easy to follow.  No one wants to deprive themselves fully of burrata or wine, right?!  Everything in moderation.  That’s what we’re helping you with not just this week but all month!  Yah!  This week we start off by looking at fitness regimes…

So, we’re not here to tell you how to work out or how often or what classes to take in.  That’s not our jam and we’d probably end up doing you a disservice!!  Need that help, ask a pro and if you need help with that, we can suggest some to you!  We’re here to help you WANT to follow through with your keep fit resolution.  We know you made one too, just admit it!

First thing…tools.  You will need a kick ass pair of runners.  We are obsessed with Nike Zooms.  They are more supportive than the Nike Free runners that we used to rock.  These are also black and white which should come as no surprise to you!  They look good and who doesn’t want to have the sickest shoes at the gym or the coolest shoes in a class?  Bonus?  They are great for packing and double in your wardrobe as a great walking shoe when traveling.

Next up?  The tech.  Our wireless Beats and Apple Watch help us cross the finish line.  Great music powers us through the toughest workout and our watch keeps us on track and accountable.  It even can buzz your wrist when you need to stand or keep on keepin’ on.

More ideas?  We needed some too!  We went for the literal looking route with the cutest sweats from Forever 21.  No pain no gain.  True story.  We also love the pink jump rope there too!  Thanks for helping us out Forever 21!  The jump rope is so great, packs up well and have your ever considered jogging with one and doing sprints then jump then sprint then jump?  We hadn’t either, but we started and love the extra bursts of BURN we get!

See our faves here…

Happy new year friends.  How are you accomplishing your fitness goals?

XO,

Samantha and Michelle

Gift Guide – Last Minute Ideas

So, you’re one of those.  It’s ok.  Admit it and things won’t feel so overwhelming and stressful.  Why?  Because we got you covered giiiirrrrllllll (or most likely boyyyyy).  Last minute gift ideas are our specialty because we are NOT last minute people and we’ve had a lot longer to think about what is available last minute to help you out!!  We realize that it might be really last minute so we’ve picked some things that should be available at your average grocery store, liquor store or drug store.  And friends, when in doubt just grab a mitt full of scratch and wins!  JK (sorta).  Your back is covered and so is your ass.  Here we go…

First, flowers.  Basic, lovely and beautiful.  Don’t be a fool and buy carnations and don’t pick the crappy looking ones that will probably die before New Years rolls around.  Get a potted one or a plant for the win.  This time of year, an orchid or an amaryllis are good go-to’s.  Try and be the hero that can find a nice vase/planter.  Don’t show up with the green plastic one or the foam stuff.  It may be last minute, but do it right.

Second, the gift card.  You’ve seen them at the checkout aisles before and wondered who needs them?  YOU.  You need them.  Get one that will help your friend / significant other / mom spoil themselves.  Maybe something they otherwise wouldn’t get for themselves.  Spa?  Dinner out?

Third, frames are at every store and every possible place you can imagine will sell one.  And your phone?  You have thousands of photos on it.  Find one of you and your special someone, print the photo and put it in the frame.  What a thoughtful gift you will have!!

Fourth, booze.  Vodka is shown but wine is always welcome.  Feel sheepish showing up with just a basic bottle of booze?  Add an accoutrement very easily.  Wine?  Add nice chocolate (not snickers…get the good stuff).  Vodka?  Add lemons and maybe some cute cocktail napkins.  Gin?  Add some fancy soda and some limes or ginger beer.  Every time of booze has a little friend that can be gifted with it to help it look like it’s a more well-rounded and thought out idea than we know it is!

Samantha and Michelle
